Information about Chimala Mission Hospital

Since its beginning, Chimala Mission Hospital has attempted to provide the best quality medical care possible.  Each year, hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of equipment and supplies are shipped to assist with this effort.  Now, in its fortieth year of operation, the hospital continues to strive to change with the constant changes of a rapidly progressing country.  Tanzania is one of the poorest countries in the world with a per capita income of approximately $200.00 per year.  With these statistics it is easy to see the necessity for the hospital.

In the immediate area of Chimala, Tanzania, nearly 100,000 people are served by this 130-bed facility.  In 2003, the hospital treated 12, 842 that had to be hospitalized, another 5,419 as out-patients, and delivered 1,200 babies.  These numbers do not reflect those treated by the weekly traveling clinic that moves from village to village helping children in need.

The next nearest hospital is approximately fifty miles away. When one travels mostly by foot or bicycle, that is a long way to go to seek medical care.  With the large number of Malaria cases that are treated yearly, thousands of people would perish if it were not for Chimala Mission Hospital.
